Assess your flooring

Every buyer has different desires, but almost universally what buyers want are homes that are well-maintained. In the poll, updated flooring is one area that you want to target to be sure you can appeal to buyers. That might mean removing shag carpet in favor of wood or composite flooring, replacing carpet in the bathroom with tile, or giving the whole house an overhaul with green flooring like bamboo, or environmentally friendly carpeting. In the survey, 62 percent said shag carpeting has to go and 73 percent said carpet in the bathroom has got to go.  

Keep your ceilings and walls in check

Another big area to assess is the color scheme on ceilings and walls. You may be used to the creative color palettes in your home, but buyers across the area, want a neutral clean slate to work with. That means that popcorn ceilings must go, as 66 percent in the survey said. Like with flooring, you can opt for eco-friendly paints, that can be even more appealing to buyers. Remember that you are creating a home that people will feel comfortable in, no matter what their tastes are.

Update kitchens and bathrooms

It is no secret that everyone is spending more time at home in 2021, and kitchens and bathrooms are becoming high traffic areas now more than ever. To attract buyers, it is to your advantage to assess the state of your kitchens and bathrooms. Some features to keep for bathrooms are double sinks, walk-in style showers with separate tubs, and large linen closets. For kitchens, center islands, under cabinet lighting, and stainless-steel appliances can make your home standout. 

Embrace the great outdoors

It is easy to overlook the outside of your home but paying attention to your backyard can be one sure-fire way to get that SOLD sign up on your home. You can start by grooming your lawn, hedges, and trees, as 72 percent shared in the survey. You will also want to showcase any top outdoor features like a porch, outdoor kitchen, or landscaped area. Outdoor kitchens are a top trend this year as 46 percent in the survey noted and even if you do not have a full outdoor set-up, showing that there is space for one can intrigue potential buyers to take a closer look at your house.
